Unlike standard Smoky Quartz which retains some translucency, true Morion is so saturated with color that it appears completely black, allowing little to no light to pass through even when backlit. It typically exhibits a vitreous luster. Its dark coloration is naturally caused by radiation from surrounding rocks acting upon aluminum impurities within the crystal lattice over millions of years.Morion Quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7, making it relatively durable.
