For products requiring filling and cushioning, we use plant-based starch-based foam granules.
These granules fill gaps inside shipping containers, reducing product movement and impact during transport, while also reducing reliance on some traditional petroleum-based foam cushioning materials.
These water-soluble starch-based filler granules can also be gradually dissolved in water after use, facilitating disposal and reducing the long-term residue problems associated with traditional foam fillers.
For natural minerals that require additional wrapping, we use honeycomb paper as a protective layer.
When stretched, the paper forms a three-dimensional honeycomb structure that creates cushioning space around the product and helps reduce impact.
Compared with some conventional plastic cushioning materials, honeycomb paper also fits more naturally with the type of packaging we want to create: simple, understated, and free from unnecessary layers.
Where appropriate, we use paper-based or kraft paper tape to reduce unnecessary use of plastic tape.
It may only be one small part of the overall packaging system, but it is still a practical area where we can make a more considered material choice.
Once the card has served its original purpose, you can follow the planting instructions and place it into soil.
The seeds currently included may be: mint, poppy, or portulaca.
With suitable water, sunlight, temperature, and growing conditions, the seeds may gradually germinate and grow into real plants.
Once returned to the soil, perhaps a few days or weeks later, you may begin to see the first signs of green appear.For us, that is also an enjoyable part of the packaging experience: allowing a card to continue in a different form after its original purpose has been fulfilled.
At this stage, we have started with areas we can directly influence, including paper-based shipping packaging, cushioning materials, tape, protective packaging, and seed cards.
Looking ahead, we also hope to continue improving the efficiency of our packaging materials, increasing the proportion of recyclable and reusable materials where possible, optimizing transportation methods, and gaining a clearer understanding of carbon emissions across our supply chain.
