Larimar, also known as Stefilia’s Stone, Atlantis Stone, and Dolphin Stone, is an extremely rare blue variety of Pectolite, a sodium calcium silicate mineral. It is characterized by its soft, tranquil blues and calming turquoise hues, often streaked with white patterns that resemble sunlight dancing beneath Caribbean waters. This unique coloration is due to the substitution of copper for calcium during its formation in volcanic basalt rock cavities. Larimar typically exhibits a silky to vitreous luster when polished. Its color is natural and highly prized, though it is photosensitive and may fade over time if exposed to too much light or heat.
Larimar is a silicate mineral (NaCa₂Si₃O₈(OH)), a blue variety of Pectolite. It has a Mohs hardness of 4.5-5, making it a relatively soft stone that can scratch easily.
